Suspect in Massive CIA Leak Identified

John A. Schulte is facing a child pornography charge but is also accused of leaking classified CIA documents to Wiki Leaks last year

The U.S. government has identified a suspect in the leak past year of a large portion of the CIA's computer hacking arsenal, the cyber-tools the agency had used to conduct espionage operations overseas, according to interviews and public documents.

Why federal investigators haven't formally charged Schulte for the leaking isn't clear.

In August past year, authorities filed child pornography charges against Schulte, who is in a jail in Manhattan, after claiming to have found 10,000 illicit images on a server that he had set up in 2009 while studying at the University of Texas in Austin.

A former CIA engineer who was charged with possession of child pornography is also accused of leaking classified agency documents to Wikileaks.

When Schulte's apartment was searched, a week after the first Vault 7 dump on 7 March, the search warrant application said he was suspected of "distribution of national defence information".

Federal authorities searched Schulte's apartment in NY past year and obtained personal computer equipment, notebooks and handwritten notes, according to a copy of the search warrant reviewed by The Washington Post. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.

The Treasury said Seif covertly moved "hundreds of millions of dollars" to " Hezbollah " from the IRGC via Al-Bilad Islamic Bank. Those funds were then used to "enrich and support the violent and radical agenda of "Hezbollah", Treasury said.

Schulte's LinkedIn profile shows that he worked as a systems engineer at the NSA for four months before taking a job as a software engineer in 2010 at the Central Intelligence Agency, where he worked for six years.

Former CIA software engineer Josh Schulte is a target of an FBI investigation looking into damaging leaks of classified information from the CIA, CBS News has confirmed.

Schulte was arrested in August, but prosecutors have been unable to bring charges against him. The former prosecutor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an open investigation, also said that if government lawyers acknowledged in a public hearing that Schulte was a target, they probably suspect he acted alone.

He said the complaints made him appear to be a disgruntled employee and a planned vacation to Mexico with his brother gave the impression he was trying to flee the country.

Why prosecutors haven't filed charges against Schulte remains unclear.

He also said that because of 'unfortunate circumstances the Federal Bureau of Investigation ultimately made the snap judgement that (he) was guilty of the leaks and targeted (him)'. He was in the CIA for the development of a computer code to the intelligence of foreign adversaries. They conducted a number of search warrants on the defendant's residence.
