At least 40 missing after ferry capsizes in Indian river

In a shocking incident, a boat carrying as many as 30 passengers is reported to have capsized in river Godavari near Manturu of Devipatnam mandal in East Godavari of Andhra Pradesh.

About 20 people swam to safety Tuesday evening after the ferry flipped on the Godavari River but others, including a group traveling to a wedding, remained unaccounted for. The tribals, all belonging to the kondareddi community, had taken the same launch from Manchur tribal hamlet near Polavaram to go to the Varapalli weekly fair market. "It is about 100 metres away from the shore and at a depth of 50 feet". It is believed to have capsized due to gusty winds.
