Apple hit with lawsuit over Macbook's "defective" butterfly keyboard

Apple hit with class action lawsuit over the faulty keyboard design of its MacBook and MacBook Pros

That petition - which cites among others the highly regarded writer and UI designer John Gruber, who has called the keyboard "one of the biggest design screwups in Apple history" - is gaining steam again today, presumably fueled by this new lawsuit.

Apple needs to make rounds to the court.

Apple is facing a class action lawsuit over claims the hardware maker knew that the "butterfly" keyboard on its MacBook range was defective, but rolled out the device anyway.

Thousands of user reportedly complained about the issue they faced. "Complaints of keyboard failures began to come in shortly after the 2015 MacBook was launched". Apple had to replace not only an unresponsive key, but a substantial part of their MacBook for free while under warranty.

Of his decision to quit music, he previously said: 'I think endings are good because they force things to get better'. I just really wanted to be it, because that was my first toy and I just really wanted to be that character.

The suit states that the design of the keyboard is such that it resists very little amounts of debris or dust, which leads to unregistered keystrokes. An online petition calling for Apple to replace defective keyboards is up to 19,000 signatures at the time of writing - not a small number. The company even stated that it is 'four times more stable'. One way Apple did so in recent generations of the MacBook Pro, was redesigning the keyboard with a new "butterfly" switch of its own making.

Apple has declined repeatedly to comment on the issue, but directs sufferers to a support page that instructs users how to tilt the computer at an angle, blow canned air under the malfunctioning keys, light candles arranged in the shape of a pentagram, and recite an incantation to Gaia in hopes of fixing their machines. But of course, they weren't open about it.

The suits assert major breaches by Apple which include, breach of express warranty, breach of the covenant of good faith, breach of the implied warranty, violation of the Magnuson-Moss and Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Acts, violation of the California Unfair Competition Law, violation of California's Consumer Legal Remedies Act and fraudulent concealment.

Affected users now seek damages, legal fees and demands that Apple not only publicly acknowledge the keyboard design flaw, but be ready to fix or replace defective units with reimbursements for those who have had to purchase replacement laptop units. "The latter demand includes reimbursement for the purchase of replacement laptops", AppleInsider reported.
