Ireland bowl in inaugural Test against Pakistan

The match against Pakistan at Malahide had to be abandoned

Having taken their first, Ireland added a second wicket moments later as Murtagh trapped Imam-ul-Haq lbw with the first ball of the next over to leave Pakistan 13-2.

The 22-year-old was left flat on the ground and needed several minutes' treatment on the field, but he recovered to face the second ball of the match, with Imam playing and missing.

Diving to make his crease as Tyrone Kane tried to throw down the stumps, Imam - nephew of Pakistan great Inzamam - collided with the onrushing Niall O'Brien.

Pakistan gave Test debuts to opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq and medium-pacer Faheem Ashraf.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi presented the Test caps to both Pakistani debutants.

And on the nine previous occasions only Zimbabwe have managed that and, apart from the first Test when Australia beat England, are the only side to avoid losing their inaugural Test. "Pak team unchanged from the match vs Northamptonshire", cricket commentator Zainab Abbas tweeted. "We're still hugely proud and there are still four days to go".

AT&T chief says hiring Cohen was 'a big mistake'

Pakistani captain Sarfraz Ahmed also said that it is an honour for his team to be part of this historic match.

The International Cricket Council awarded Ireland Test status in June past year, while Pakistan were then named as their first opponents in cricket's longest format.

Imam, the nephew of Pakistan selection chief and former Test batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq, scored a hundred on his one-day global debut against Sri Lanka past year.

"If we can get some walk up with good weather (on Saturday), hopefully it will be a more appropriate environment to start our first ball in Test cricket,"Ireland cricket chief executive Warren Deutrom told BBC".

The opening day's play was rained off meaning that the clash between Ireland and Pakistan at Malahide Castle was delayed until Saturday, which cost Cricket Ireland a pricey £66,000.

The match will start at 3PM PST.
