Mumbai leading officer and Former ATS Chief Himanshu Roy commits suicide

According to preliminary information, Himanshu Roy shot himself at around 1:40 pm with his service revolver at his home in south Mumbai.

Roy was reportedly suffering from cancer and the motive behind the suicide isn't known yet.

It is being told that due to the prolonged illness, he was very depressed. The ones which grabbed the eyeballs of all national television news channel headlines was the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal and arresting actor Vindu Dara Singh for his alleged involvement and connection with the bookies. "Such a tragedy", MN Singh, a former IPS officer was quoted by NDTV. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead.

A "Bombay" boy, Roy was an ex-student of Campion and St Xavier's College, Mumbai.

He worked for Cyber Cell and served as the Joint Commissioner of Police for Mumbai in 2009. He was presently serving as the Additional DGP (Esstt.), MS, Mumbai.

A 1988 batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer, Roy was instrumental in solving several high-profile cases, including the murder of journalist J Dey.

Tributes poured in for Roy as many Twitters users expressed their condolences.
