Michael Bloomberg to write $4.5M cheque for Paris climate pact

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will pay $4.5 million to cover the lapsed United States financial commitment to the Paris climate accord.

The $4.5 million pledge from Bloomberg will not make up the entire shortfall from the U.S.'s departure.

"America made a commitment and as an American, if the government's not going to do it, we all have responsibility", said the former Republican NYC mayor on CBS's Face the Nation.

President Donald Trump past year pulled the U.S. out of the pact, making the country the only one opposed to it. Bloomberg said that all Americans share the responsibility to uphold deals the government makes, and that since he is able to, he would send a check to the organization as though nothing had changed.

"He's been known to change his mind".

The scheme also includes its push to open an Asia-Pacific office for the Climate Technology Center & Network (CTCN) in South Korea and carry out US$10 billion won worth of global projects related to the climate issue by 2030, the ministry said. America is part of the problem.

"But he should change his mind and say look there really is a problem here. America is a big part of the solution and we should go in and help the world stop a potential disaster".

Bloomberg said the Trump appointee, who has expressed doubt about accepted climate science, was "saying the environment doesn't need protection" and saying instead he would "try to protect jobs".

Bloomberg hit hard against Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt, accusing him of not doing his job.

"When countries adopted the historic Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise, they also recognised that achieving that goal would take broad-based global climate action in all sectors, public and private", she said. Trump cut that payment after complaining it was too expensive. Jerry Brown (D.), a coalition of states and businesses working to meet USA agreements under the deal. The company added that Bloomberg could create more funds available into the UN Climate Change Secretariat in the event the US lasted to "neglect to pay for its own share of their UN weather budget from 20-19". The promise is part of the We Are Still In campaign that Michael Bloomberg started past year, aiming to reassure the worldwide community that even if the federal government is against the concerted climate change tacking effort, the country still supports the Paris Agreement goals.
