Karnataka polls: FIR against BJP MLA for 'Hindu vs Muslim' remark

Karnataka BJP MLA Sanjay Patil

Patil, who has often courted controversies for his rabble-rousing speeches, said, "India is a Hindu country and there must be a Ram Mandir".

An FIR has been lodged against BJP MLA from Karnataka, Sanjay Patil, for reportedly making a provocative speech during an election roadshow in Belagavi recently.

According to ANI, he was quoted as saying, "This election is not about roads, water or other issues".

Patil also told the crowd, which lapped up every word he said, that the Congress favoured constructing a mosque in Ayodhya instead of a Ram temple. He said it was a straight Hindu versus Muslim fight.

Patil had won the seat in 2013 by beating Kinekar Manohar (Independent - MES), who stood second, and Congress candidate Laxmi Hebbalkar. "But she can't say it, as she is among those who will construct a masjid, Babri Masjid".
