Russia to face new sanctions over Syria: Nikki Hayley

Syria Damascus air strikes

In sending missiles and bombs at Syria, President Trump hit more targets and used more firepower than he did in a similar military strike past year.

Further Russia and the U.S. engaged in a war of words over the collective decision of the UK, France and the United States to launch strikes on Syria on Saturday in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons last week in Douma that took the lives of more than 50 people including children.

After the vote, Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said the meeting confirmed that the USA and its allies "continue to put global politics and diplomacy in the realm of myth-making - myths invented in London, Paris and Washington".

Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White told reporters on Saturday the strikes "successfully hit every target".

White says the strikes "were very successful. Had there been any chemical agents here none of us could stand near the site because of toxic fumes but here we are all standing here which proved there were no toxic chemical agents here", stated Saeed Saeed, head of the Polymers Department. Bush was addressing sailors aboard a ship alongside a "Mission Accomplished" banner.

U.S. President Donald Trump praised the military strike on Syria as a "perfectly executed" operation and said it was aimed at ending the use of such weapons of mass destruction.

"When our president draws a red line, our president enforces the red line", Haley stressed.

Russian Federation and its close ally Syria called the attack fabricated and said no evidence of chemical weapons use in Douma exists.

Hundreds of Syrians poured into the streets of Damascus on Saturday, dancing and chanting in defiance of what they called the West's failure to shake their nation's resolve with airstrikes that jolted the capital only hours earlier.

Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia (C, Front) votes in favor of a draft resolution on Syria at the UN headquarters in New York, April 14, 2018.

Syrian air defenses intercepted most of the incoming missiles, according to the report, which urged citizens not to believe other media reports "intentionally or unintentionally" exaggerating the results of the attack.

The allied attack set off a fierce worldwide debate about whether it was justified. That attack, [Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White says], hit a Syrian military air base and was meant to focus on Syria's ability to deliver chemical weapons.

The Pentagon said the strike was created to degrade Syria's chemical weapons capability without killing civilians or foreign fighters. Thus, this attack looks much more like it was meant only to degrade Syrian chemical weapons themselves. "Public estimates are as high as 200", she said.

The US and its European allies chose three targets instead of the single air base hit a year ago and used twice as many weapons. Syrian time, about 9 p.m.

- The first was at a scientific research centre in greater Damascus involved in the development and production of chemical weapons, the second at a chemical weapons storage facility near Homs, and the third at a chemical equipment storage facility and important command post.

"Initial assessments are that this target was destroyed", he said.

- French president Emmanuel Macron said "a red line" had been crossed after the chemical weapons attack in Douma.

US Defence Secretary James Mattis and Marine General Joseph Dunford said three main chemical weapons facilities were targeted at 9 pm EST (2 am CEST) by missiles from both the sea and aircraft.

Defense Secretary James Mattis gave a briefing on the actions in Syria and said the Syrian regime has continued to ignore worldwide law and use chemical weapons in attacks murdering woman and children and other innocent civilians.

The following year, he wrote: "Remember the terrorists that Obama has been arming in Syria against Assad". He said the targets selected by U.S., British and French officials were meant to minimize civilian casualties.

Israel commended the swift response of the United States and its allies.

Haley has been one of the strongest voices accusing Russian Federation of enabling the Syrian government in its use of chemical weapons in the civil war that is now in its seventh year.

In short, Assad should have nothing to fear from using chemical weapons again. "This was not about interfering in a civil war and it was not about regime change".

The Syrian government has repeatedly denied any use of banned weapons.

"I support the United States and coalition partners' strikes in Syria".
