MN murder suspect may be tied to Florida killing

Police are looking for 56-year-old Lois Riess as a person of interest in her husband's murder

In addition to murder charges in Florida, Riess also Florida charges of grand theft of an automobile and grand theft and use of personal identification.

Investigators believe 56-year-old Riess, thought to be armed and risky, is driving Hutchinson's vehicle, a white Acura TL, last seen with Florida license plate Y37TAA.

On Thursday, the Dodge County Sheriff's Office said 2nd-degree murder charges being prepared against Riess in Minnesota for the death of her husband, 54-year-old David Riess. "U.S. Marshals are actively involved in a national search for this risky fugitive".

After shooting and killing Hutchinson in the Fort Myers area, police say Riess stole her cash, credit cards, ID, and auto. She has been charged with felony theft. Investigators are not aware of any connection between Lois Riess and Hutchinson.

"Our detectives have reviewed hundreds of hours of video, traveled throughout the state, collected hundreds of items for forensic examination in a coordinated effort with our state and federal agencies", Undersheriff Carmine Marceno with the Lee County Sheriff's Office said at a news conference Friday.

Also missing were Hutchinson's vehicle and her auto keys, Marceno said, and Riess, whose own vehicle had been the subject of numerous alerts since she first went missing on March 23, was found abandoned in a nearby park. Business partners of her husband hadn't seen him for two weeks and asked for a welfare check.

Investigators believe Riess may have killed Hutchinson earlier this week in order to assume her identity. He had been shot multiple times, Rose said, and police were not initially able to determine how long he had been dead.

Investigators consider her to be armed and risky.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office then requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, who joined the investigation on March 30. Lois Riess, who had a penchant for visiting casinos, "had been there, but left", before authorities got there, Rose said.
