Missiles Are 'Coming to Syria,' Trump Warns Russia on Twitter

Will US respond ‘forcefully’ to Syrian chemical attack

In Washington, U.S. Defence Secretary Jim Mattis told Congress he believed there was a chemical attack in Syria, but added a short while later that the United States had not made any decision to launch military action in Syria.

Our relationship with Russian Federation is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War.

Our Bae Joo-yon has more.

Earlier Thursday morning the president tweeted he "never said when an attack on Syria would take place", referring to possible US action following the suspected chemical attack in Syria, apparently responding to criticism that he was telegraphing military action as he repeatedly has said he would never do. "Get ready Russian Federation, because they will be coming, nice and new and "smart", Trump wrote on Twitter.

"Our relationship with Russian Federation is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War".

His remarks follow Russia's veto of a USA draft Security Council resolution calling for an independent investigation to establish with certainty whether Syria used poison gas against civilians in Douma, a rebel-held suburb of Damascus, last week.

Defense Secretary James Mattis said Wednesday that the U.S.is "still assessing the intelligence" on the recent chemical attack but noted that the US military is on standby should Trump give the order for a strike.

The U.S., France and Britain have been in extensive consultations about launching a military strike as early as the end of this week, U.S. officials have said.

In an interview with pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV on Wednesday, Shabaan said the United States threats of striking Syria aim to practice more pressure to make more gains, Xinhua reported.

Macron, the French president, said he had "proof" that the Assad government mounted the chemical weapons attack.

The tweet was criticized by some lawmakers and military analysts who questioned the wisdom of the president publicly telegraphing his move - something Trump denounced former President Barack Obama for doing.

The President and his legal team are also re-evaluating whether Trump should sit down for an interview with Mueller's team. The remarks were made at a private meeting, so it is unclear of the tone Trump intended them to be taken in.

Lascelles quite happy at Newcastle, says Benitez
If popular opinion were to be believed, Rafa Benitez would have walked out on Newcastle United at least four times this season. Newcastle have shipped only 41 goals this season, a record bettered only by Burnley and the division's top-five sides.

In a tweet on Sunday, Trump said those deemed responsible should expect to pay a "big price".

The strikes were the biggest intervention by Western powers against Assad in the country's seven-year-old civil war and pitted the United States and its allies against Russian Federation, which itself intervened in the war in 2015 to back Assad.

The Syrian government and Russian Federation say the reports of a poison gas assault on the Syrian town of Douma are bogus.

The extraordinarily provocative tweets come hours after Prime Minister Theresa May bowed to worldwide and domestic pressure and agreed Britain will join France and the United States in a likely military strike on Syria.

Trump has consulted with U.S. allies, particularly France and the United Kingdom, about a coordinated response to the suspected chemical attack, but officials say they have not reached a firm agreement on scale or timing. "Get ready, Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and smart!"

President Trump on Tuesday warned that the USA was prepared to take "forceful" action.

Activists reported that government forces vacated strategic potential targets, including air bases around the country in apparent preparation for incoming strikes. Several hours after it was posted, Russian President Vladimir Putin, who's supporting Syrian President Bashar al Assad, said "the state of things in the world can not but provoke concern".

On ABC-TV's "This Week" program Sunday, Bossert said of the suspected chemical attack, "This is one of those issues on which every nation, all peoples, have all agreed and have agreed since World War II this is an unacceptable practice".

Moscow's ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, warned on Wednesday that any USA missiles fired at Syria would be shot down and the launch sites targeted. "The President has a number of options at his disposal and all of those options remain on the table". Any U.S. strike would probably involve the navy, given the risk to aircraft from Russian and Syrian air defences.

However, the USA does hope French and British aircraft as well as ships will be part of the strikes as both nations continue to weigh the possibility of a joint response.
