Israel lauds US-led airstrikes on Syria as

Punitive US-led strikes on Syria are justified because of the "murderous actions" carried out by the Damascus government, an Israeli official said Saturday. "Canada supports the decision by the United States, the United Kingdom, and France to take action to degrade the Assad regime's ability to launch chemical weapons attacks against its own people", Trudeau said in a statement Friday.

"It should be clear to President Assad that his reckless efforts to acquire and use weapons of mass destruction, his wanton disregard for worldwide law and his provision of a forward base for Iran and its proxies endanger Syria", the statement also said.

The U.S., U.K., and France jointly launched airstrikes on the Assad regime's alleged chemical weapons facilities in Syria earlier on Saturday.

Israel on Saturday lauded the joint airstrikes on Syria by the U.S., Britain and France as an "appropriate" response to the alleged gas attack in Syria.

Asked how much advance warning Israel had received, an unnamed official told Reuters, "Between 12 and 24 hours, I believe".

Tensions have been running high between Israel and its arch-foe Iran, a key backer of the Syrian regime which provides military advisors and "volunteer" ground forces to Damascus. "Due to the attack, Russian Federation will expedite its advanced weapons system sales to the Syrians, which will harm the IDF's freedom of action", they warned.
