Have the airstrikes made the conflict in Syria better or worse?

Smoke billows in the town of Douma in Syria's Eastern Ghouta

Donald Trump ordered the strikes in response to accusations of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's forces using chemical weapons, although this sort of escalation has seemed inevitable ever since the president named warmonger John Bolton as his new national security advisor.

Voting on the document was held during a Security Council meeting, initiated by Russian Federation after the US, France and Britain struck Syria last night.

The three targets were the Barzah Research and Development Center, Him Shinsar Chemical Weapons Facility and the Him Shinsar Chemical Weapons Bunker Facility, and McKenzie showed before and after photos of each target.

"Based on recent experience, we fully expect a significant disinformation campaign over the coming days by those who have aligned themselves with the Assad regime", said Mattis, adding that White and Lieutenant General Kenneth F. McKenzie would speak "in effort to maintain transparency and accuracy".

Syrian state TV said the army's air defences shot down 13 missiles fired in a US-led attack in the Kiswah area south of the capital Damascus.

Assad's forces last week conducted an alleged chemical attack that left dozens dead in the rebel-held city of Douma.

But Russian president Vladimir Putin condemned the Syria strikes as an "act of aggression" that would have a "destructive" influence on global relations.

Britain had no choice but to conduct air strikes, Theresa May says
It comes as Russian Federation and the United States traded fresh blows as the latest round of talks at the UN Security Council. Opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said parliament should be consulted before May approved military action.

President Trump thanked the United Kingdom and France for their "wisdom and power", saying the strike could not have "had a better result".

"We thank the Croatian government for supporting the actions of the U.S, U.K and France against the use of chemical weapons", U.S. Ambassador W. Robert Kohorst said in a statement. "Mission Accomplished!" Trump said in a Twitter post.

But she also drew a link with the nerve agent attack on Russian former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury. "Russia in the most serious way condemns the attack on Syria where Russian military servicemen help the legitimate government to fight terrorism", he said. The document was backed by Russia, China and Bolivia.

"We have sought to use every possible diplomatic channel to achieve this", the prime minister said.

Trump added that Britain, France "have ave marshalled their righteous power against barbarism and brutality".

Russia, meanwhile, demanded a vote on a United Nations resolution that would condemn "the aggression" against Syria by the USA and its allies.

The resolution was rejected at an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Saturday that was convened at Moscow's request, with three votes in favor, eight votes against and four abstentions.
