Erdogan said he had a "sleepless night" as he monitored all the developments.

"Whoever the perpetrators they should pay a price".

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said the strikes had not been launched via Turkey's southern Incirlik air base.

Turkey is "very uncomfortable" with some countries that have turned Syria into an "arm wrestling" arena, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday.

"Prevention of all the massacres conducted through conventional and chemical weapons depends on providing a political solution in Syria as soon as possible". The Turkish leader also emphasised the importance of de-escalating the tension in the region.

Turkish presidential aide on Saturday urged the worldwide community to unite, saying it would have been "unthinkable to leave Syrian regime unanswered" after its suspected chemical attack in Syria's Douma. Turkey was informed about the attack prior to it. "The Incirlik base was not used in the attack".

"We see this attack as a sanction against the use of chemical weapons and a stern warning to Assad against attacking his own people with chemicals", he added.

"The conscience of the worldwide community is in no doubt about that".
