Sridevi wins first National Award, posthumously

Assamese language coming-of-age film "Village Rockstars" was declared the best film during the 65 National Film Awards announced on Friday in New Delhi.

Her final role was that of Devki Sabarwal in the thriller Mom - and today, her last performance was honoured at the National Film Awards.

In an earlier interview to IANS, Sridevi had said she was proud to be a part of a film like "Mom", and the reactions it elicited.

Last year, the jury was headed by filmmaker Priyadarshan last year and Akshay Kumar had bagged the Best Actor award for his performance in Rustom while Malayalam actor Surabhi Lakshmi won the Best Actress award for Minnaminungu.

Apart from Sridevi, even Vinod Khanna was given an award posthumously.

Telugu film industry's stalwarts are expected to celebrate it through tweets/statements. Zaira Wasim won the best actor in the supporting role for Dangal and Sonam Kapoor received special mention for her film, Neerja.

"I just heard about it". The film was also recognised for original screenplay, while the best dialogues went to Odiya film "Hello Arsi".

Best male singer was awarded to noted singer Yesudas while best female singer was awarded to Shasha Tirupati for film "Kaatru Veliyidai" directed by Mani Ratnam.
