President Trump's 'Post Office Scam' Feud With Amazon Just Got Hotter

Unlike many others they pay little or no taxes to say local authorities, use our Postal method as their own shipping and delivery Boy (causing enormous loss towards the U.S.), and are putting tens of thousands of merchants out of industry!

"The USPS is on an unsustainable financial path and must be restructured to prevent a taxpayer-funded bailout", the president said in an order that was released Thursday night.

The task force will be assigned to study such factors as pricing in the package delivery market.

"We're trying to pass reform legislation that will allow USPS to compete without the multi-billion dollar burden imposed on it by Congress in 2006", Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., a member of the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement to USA TODAY.

The Postal Service has lost more than $65 billion over the past decade as Americans increasingly transmit messages online, according to the executive order.

Trump has accused Amazon of not paying its fair share of postage to the USPS.

But the post office has benefited, more than suffered, from Amazon, financial analysts say.

But Amazon and its CEO, Jeff Bezos, have been frequent targets of Trump's attacks, with the president widely seen as targeting the company because Bezos owns The Washington Post, which has reported critically on the president. A Politifact analysis found that despite a notable drop in mail, the delivery of packages has been a boon for the struggling agency.

But earlier this month, the president tweeted that the postal service loses a fortune to Amazon and that the company is also hurting retailers.

Claims that Amazon is taking advantage of the Postal Service have not passed muster with fact checkers.

In response to an op-ed that appeared in the Wall Street Journal previous year, USPS Chief Financial Officer Joseph Corbett wrote that it is "inaccurate" to say that the Postal Service delivers packages "below cost". The Postal Service is an independent organization and its mail rates are set by a commission.

For example, Trump's executive order requires the task force to review the definition of the "universal service obligation", which is a loosely defined mandate for the Postal Service to provide affordable service to all customers. It should have one hundred twenty days to submit a report together with tips.
