Many excited about lower fee increase for Shenandoah National Park

Instead, the Park Service will spread a more modest increase out across 117 parks, instead of charging more at the 17 most-visited parks like Glacier and Yellowstone. If you are local, and want to save $10 on an annual pass, you should buy it in the next few weeks.

In 2017, the agency made a more dramatic price increase when it raised the National Park Service's Lifetime Senior Pass from $10 to $80.

Effective on June 1, the 7-day vehicle pass that most Glacier and Yellowstone visitors use will increase from $30 to $35 dollars, with per person charges and motorcycles going up $5. The NPS says fees will modestly increase to raise additional revenue to address the $11.6 billion in deferred maintenance across the system of 417 parks, historic and cultural sites, and monuments. The per-vehicle pass for it is now $20.

The National Park Service will be raising its entry fees this year, but not to the degree that many feared.

The only way to win a Casket Match is by putting your opponent in a coffin and shutting the lid. It should also be noted that Rusev never actually vowed to "crush [Undertaker's] old ass".

The Park Service said in a statement that the higher entrance fees will be used "for projects and activities to improve the experience for visitors who continue to visit parks at unprecedented levels".

"The public spoke, and the administration listened", she said, noting that the plan to almost triple fees at popular parks was opposed by a range of businesses, gateway communities, governors, tourism groups, conservation organizations and the public.

Last year, nearly 330.9 million people visited the 379 park service sites that reported attendance figures. Here in Yellowstone, 80 percent of entrance fees stay in the park and are devoted to spending that supports the visitor. "Not all visitors to our parks have the ability to hike with a 30-pound pack and camp in the wilderness miles away from utilities. Visitors benefit when park roads, trails, and boardwalks are maintained and provide access to the park's treasures".

Theresa Pierno, president and CEO of the National Park Conservation Association, hailed the revised plan. They estimate that once fully implemented, the new fee structure will grow annual entrance fee revenue by about $60 million.

The revised fee plan is "a big win for park lovers everywhere", said Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona, top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee.
