Xander Bogaerts Placed On DL With 'Small Crack' In Ankle

Mark J. Rebilas USA TODAY Sports

Xander Bogaerts opened the season on fire, but now he'll have to sit out for more than a week due to injury.

Bogaerts suffered the ankle injury during Sunday's game against the Rays after sliding into the protective netting near the Tampa Bay dugout.

Bogaerts was sent for tests on his injured left ankle Monday, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports. The injury is a non-displaced fracture and won't require surgery. If Bogaerts does miss 14 days, he'd be in line to return for the April 24-26 trip to Toronto.
