The Syrian military is said to be evacuating its bases near the Lebanon border and transporting its personnel to Russian army sites amid growing concern over an imminent USA strike, an expected reprisal for the alleged chemical attack carried out by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday.

The OPCW's fact-finding mission will not seek to establish who was responsible for the attack.

Russian lawmakers have warned the United States that Moscow would view an airstrike on Syria as a war crime, saying it could trigger a direct military clash. The statement came shortly after Russia's ambassador to Lebanon warned that any United States missiles fired at Syria would be shot down and their launch sites targeted.

Syrian opposition activists, rescue workers and medics allege that bombs filled with toxic chemicals were dropped on Douma, in the Eastern Ghouta region, near the capital Damascus, by Syrian government forces.

Trump wrote on Twitter, "Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria". Get ready Russian Federation, because they will be coming, nice and new and "smart!", Mr Trump tweeted.

Though there is no authorization for use of military force against the Syrian government, President Trump has promised a "big price to pay" for the latest alleged attack and observers are watching to see whether he could launch more strikes.

"The draft resolution has not been adopted", said the Peruvian envoy following the first vote on the US-written resolution. "We're still working on this".

Trump suggested Monday he had little doubt that Syria was to blame, but neither he nor other administration officials have produced hard evidence.

However, the World Health Organisation said on Wednesday it had received reports that hundreds of people had visited Syrian health facilities with "signs and symptoms consistent with exposure to toxic chemicals" at the weekend. Trump responded then by launching Navy cruise missiles at a Syrian airfield.

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis said earlier this week that the USA won't rule out airstrikes on Syria after the chemical attack.

Mattis was to meet with Trump later Wednesday. Trump also blamed the deteriorating U.S. -Russia relationship on the "Fake & Corrupt Russia Investigation, headed up by the all Democrat loyalists".

Trump earlier on Wednesday wrote on Twitter that Washington's ties with Russian Federation were at their worst ever point.

He also suggested that the United States could help Russian Federation with their sagging economy and work together to stop the military buildup between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Sky news has reported early Wednesday that US-led warplanes were patrolling a a low altitude over Syrian border town of Al-Tanf in the Homs province.

Mr. Trump has said publicly that sharing military plans could give enemies information they could use to their advantage.

French President Emmanuel Macron said his nation, the US and Britain will decide how to respond.

Previous year the US fired cruise missiles at an regime airfield following a chemical attack that Syria and Russian Federation deny but the United Nations found came from the Assad government.

Trump has been mulling response to the alleged "chemical attack" that occurred in Syria on Saturday.
