Rockies star charges the mound and wild brawl breaks out

Credit Ron Chenoy USA TODAY Sports

And Wednesday's brawl was the result of San Diego Padres starter Luis Perdomo throwing the first pitch of the bottom of the third inning behind Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado.

The Rockies' Arenado, righthanded pitcher German Marquez and left fielder Gerardo Parra were ejected.

The brawl likely stems from Tuesday night when Padres outfielder Manuel Margot was hit in the ribs in the 9th inning.

I've been covering Arenado since his debut in 2013 and have never seen him as heated as he was in reaction to the pitch, immediately spiking his helmet and charging the mound.

The two team's beef started yesterday when Rockies reliever Scott Oberg accidentally hit Manuel Margot with a 95 miles per hour fastball to the ribs.

This is the finale of this series, but the teams play again April 23-25 back at Coors Field.

Outfielder Gerardo Parra was able to connect on a soft punch to AJ Ellis. That feeling only intensified when Trevor Story was plunked with two outs in the first inning by Perdomo. Again, it wasn't obviously on objective but the location can't have pleased the Rockies and once German Marquez plunked Hunter Renfroe--who delivered the big blast in the previous game--the Coors Field faithful could feel a storm brewing.
