House Committee to release report on Greitens investigation Wednesday at 5

A Missouri state House committee released a graphic report Wednesday including lurid details of alleged conduct by Gov. Eric Greitens with a woman who testified under oath that Greitens subjected her to non-consensual sexual activity and violence.

The legislative report was released at 5 p.m. Greitens is set to release a report Wednesday.

Missouri House of Representatives Speaker of the House Todd Richardson (R-Poplar Bluff) defended the report and called the findings "beyond disturbing". Greitens later added: "This is exactly like what's happening with the witch hunts in Washington, D.C".

"And he slapped me across my face, just like hard to where I was like, what?" she told the committee of lawmakers.

The report isn't expected to contain any recommended action, but House Democratic Minority Leader Gail McCann Beatty is calling on the governor to immediately resign. But the prosecutor in the case says the defense "cherry picked bits and pieces" of her nine-hour deposition and the woman's attorney says the comment referred to one particular instance concerning the photo. "What we've seen so far is enough for impeachment".

A Greitens spokesman says the administration is "operating as normal".

But Republican consultant John Hancock said the "constant retelling of the underlying facts of the affair has had a debilitating effect on the governor, as it would any elected official".

The Missouri House committee investigating Gov. Eric Greitens now has more time to do so.

St. Louis Circuit Judge Rex Burlison issued the order Tuesday in response to a request from Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner. The case goes to trial May 14.

Greitens was indicted in February on a single felony count of invasion of privacy.

Greitens has admitted to having an affair with the woman, identified in the indictment only as K.S., but has denied trying to blackmail her into covering it up or doing anything that was criminal.

In another meeting, the woman said Greitens asked her whether she had been sexually active with anyone else, including her husband.

The governor calls the report and allegations against him "a political witch hunt".

In March, a special House legislative committee launched its own investigation, a potential precursor to impeachment proceedings. That probe came after media reports that Greitens' campaign had obtained and used a charity donor list in 2015 as it ramped up fundraising for his gubernatorial bid.

Among Republican voters, the Governor's approval rating was at 63 percent. "The committee will also continue working through the end of session".

Greitens' swaggering public persona has changed since the scandal broke, University of Missouri-St. "It has nothing to do with politics and should have nothing to do with governance", he said.

Still, Robertson said the already chilly relationship between Greitens and many of his Republican colleagues could haunt the governor.

When she remained silent, the woman said Greitens "spanked me and said, 'Are you going to mention my name?' And I said, I just gritted through my teeth, and I said, 'No.' And he's like, 'Good, now that's a good girl'".
