Apple's stumbling HomePod isn't the hot seller company wanted

No Echo here! Apple cuts Home Pod orders after sales prove to be lackluster

The report that was revealed today said that it failed to specify Apple's sales expectations for HomePod and it doesn't assign a figure about the order reduction. Pre-orders were strong, and in the last week of January the device grabbed about a third of the USA smart speaker market in unit sales, according to data provided to Bloomberg by Slice Intelligence. However the catching up will take time and at present, Apple has reportedly lowered sales forecasts and cut some orders with Inventec Corp., according to a new report. Only said enthusiasm evaporated nearly instantaneously, as potential customers learned the non-audio-playing capabilities of the $349 gadget were somewhat limited compared to significantly cheaper Echos and Google Homes.

After an okay start, Apple's HomePod isn't winning over enough shoppers.

San Francisco:When Apple Inc.'s HomePod smart speaker went on sale in January, it entered a market pioneered and dominated by Amazon's Echo lineup of Alexa-powered devices. During its first 10 weeks of sales, the HomePod captured 10% of the smart speaker market, compared to 73% for Amazon and 14% for Google. In our HomePod review, we praised the overall sound quality of the speaker and its attractive design, but lamented the limitations around Siri and the fact that it works directly only with Apple Music. Now, however, it seems the device isn't selling as well as Apple hoped. But it paints a picture of HomePods piling up in store rooms, orders cut from distributors, and as little as 10 units sold per day in some Apple stores.

It's still early days for HomePod - but there's no doubt that it's facing some problems. Apple declined to comment.

The report cites revised analyst predictions of seven million HomePod sales this year, roughly one-fourth Amazon's Echo sales and less than a half of Google Home sales. By contrast, Munster predicts that Amazon will sell 29 million Echos this year and 39 million in 2019. Alphabet is expected to sell 18 million Google Home devices this year and 32 million next year.
