Governor Offers to Send Troops to Border

Texan officials said about 300 troops would be dispatched by the state weekly until the complement of the National Guard reaches at least 1,000

The governors of Texas and Arizona said they would deploy small contingents of soldiers, and New Mexico's governor has tentatively agreed to do likewise.

Ducey added that the deployment of soldiers was a priority since the federal government had ignored the border "for nearly a decade".

The attorney general's "zero-tolerance" for border-crossing prosecutions calls for taking action against people who are caught illegally entering the United States for the first time. Jerry Brown, who has not announced whether troops from his state's National Guard will participate. Doug Ducey said 225 members of the state National Guard are heading to the border with Mexico to help the Border Patrol and other federal agencies that help secure the border.

Trump said last week that he wants between 2,000 and 4,000 troops along the U.S. -Mexico border, which stretches approximately 2,000 miles from California to Texas.

"My administration has no choice but to act", he wrote.

"You need to understand that there is a mathematical need for this, because the people coming across the border have increased dramatically, more than 200 percent month on month in the month of March, of what it was the year before", the Republican governor said. President George W. Bush sent 6,400 troops starting in 2006 and President Obama sent 1,200 in 2010. "We are sealing up our Southern Border", he said Saturday on Twitter.

Ducey says the Arizona troops' mission is "about providing manpower and resources to support federal, state, county, tribal and local law enforcement agencies in stopping the flow of criminals, narcotics, weapons and ammunition that is being trafficked into our state".

Government violent crime strategy totally ignores impact of police cuts
Shadow education secretary Angela Rayner said: 'We have seen knife crime increase in 39 of the 43 police forces across the UK. Shadow home secretary Diane Abbott claimed the Government "has only just woken up to the problem of rising violent crime".

"I don't suppose it's a partisan downside or an id downside", he talked about.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told San Antonio radio station KTSA that he would add about 300 troops a week until the total number reaches at least 1,000 troops.

Most illegal immigrants are transported across the border by the drug cartels, Abbott said and believes if the cartels are stopped, illegal immigration will go down.

Abbott says there's no fixed date on their deployment and that "we may be in this for the long haul".

New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez's office said that more than 80 troops would deploy later this week. They'd be the primary of an anticipated 250 Guard members from New Mexico to serve on the border.

But McMaster says his offer Monday afternoon to Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was just one state helping another, like other states have helped SC after hurricanes. SC sent troops to the border during Operation Jump Start, the border deployment ordered by Bush in 2006.
