Dwayne Johnson Confirms Planned 2019 Filming Start Date For 'Black Adam'

The most likely option is that Black Adam will show up in Shazam!

Dwayne Johnson has revealed that he thinks his solo "Black Adam" movie will begin filming at some point in 2019.

Johnson, who is now busy conducting a press tour for his upcoming film Rampage, recently caught up with Yahoo for an exclusive interview.

We're pretty excited for this game - especially if Johnson has to improvise a little - but so are the wrestler-turned-movie star's friends apparently, because they won't stop texting him.

If the script for Black Adam has been penned, then it sounds like screenwriter Adam Sztykiel has been busy. Up until a year ago, it was believed that Johnson would play the antagonist in David F. Sandberg's Shazam! film, which is slated to release in 2019. Last year, Johnson said that he had been discussing with DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns about when and where to introduce Black Adam, and the actor said that they have "a really cool surprise" regarding the character's introduction.

DC and Warner Bros. might get the ball rolling on Black Adam as early as next year. Hopefully the stars align for Johnson and his prediction of a 2019 start date for Black Adam will come to fruition.

"I love the idea that is backstory is that he starts off as a slave", Johnson explained. "[His] family getting killed, coming back from that; There's a lot of elements about Black Adam that have attracted me for a very, very, very, very, very long time".

Instead of co-starring, or even appearing in Zachary Levi's upcoming Shazam film, Black Adam (an Egyptian-god-channeling antihero) won't be showing up until his own movie, thanks to a series of hiccups and disappointments in DC's superhero movie slate.
