Lewis will play the role in the film "Run This Town" which is now in production in Toronto.

Band of Brothers alum Damian Lewis is set to portray controversial former mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, in the drama RUN THIS TOWN, which is now shooting in Toronto.

Just seeing his name again reminds me of a more innocent time, an era where politicians who spent most of their days on tabloid covers only ascended to the office of Mayor. In order to play Ford, Lewis undergoes an extensive prosthetic fitting that involves "getting his face and head completely covered in silicon strips" and "breathing through a small hole near the nose".

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the story centres on a reporter (played by Ben Platt) who hopes to expose a scandal swirling around a politician who doesn't play by the rules - sounds like folksy Rob Ford, right? Reportedly, no character in the movie is based on a real person except for Ford.

Fictitious aides played by Nina Dobrev and Mena Massoud try to protect him by suppressing the story. Scott Speedman and Jennifer Ehle will also star. He had already had a background of substance abuse and public intoxication, and during his term, a video surfaced of him smoking crack cocaine.

He died in 2016, while his brother Doug recently won the Ontario Progressive Conservative leadership race.

Lewis is repped by UTA, UK's Markham, Froggatt, and Jackoway Tyerman.
