Apple Developing Drama Series Based on Isaac Asimov's Novel

The press service of the American company Apple has informed that the Corporation intends to start filming a series based on the series of novels by Isaac Asimov's "Foundation".

The "Foundation" series began as several short stories published between 1942 and 1950, and was later developed into a trilogy of novels published from 1951 to 1953. The project, from Skydance Television, has been put in development for straight-to-series consideration. Deadline suggests that this latest deal signals an even higher level of ambition for Apple, following its morning show drama headlined by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, a re-imagination of the Spielberg classic, Amazing Stories, along with a Ronald D. Moore space drama, a Damien Chazelle series, a Kristin Wiig comedy, and others.

Myanmar Court Rejects Release of Journalists Investigating Rohingya Crisis
Preliminary hearings in the two reporters' case have been going on since January, a month after they were mysteriously arrested. The army has claimed the Rohingya men were terrorists, but has not presented any evidence to back up the claim.

The books originally formed a trilogy (which also includes Foundation and Empire and Second Foundation), but Asimov wound up completing seven Foundation books before his passing in 1992. The most successful Asimov adaptations tend to be pretty different from the source material, like I, Robot with Will Smith (which stems from the Foundation universe), and the 1999 Robin Williams movie Bicentennial Man. Meanwhile, Friedman is best known for his work on the small screen, working as the writer for the sci-fi TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Asimov's trilogy has been tried numerous times as a feature film at Fox, Warner Bros (with Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, who greenlit The Lord of the Rings), and then at Sony with Independence Day director Roland Emmerich.

Skydance Television adds Foundation to a series slate that includes Altered Carbon, Grace and Frankie, Condor and the upcoming Jack Ryan and Dietland. They might just be able to pull this off.
