Russian exile found dead in London in unexplained circumstances

Nikolai Glushkov a Russian exile and former associate of the late oligarch Boris Berezovsky has reportedly been found dead at his home in London

The Metropolitan Police said an investigation is underway, but did not name Mr Glushkov.

British media said Glushokov, 68, a businessman, had associated with a prominent critic of the Kremlin, late oligarch Boris Berezovsky, who died in London in 2013.

There is no evidence to suggest a link to the March 4 poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, the statement said. "The death is now being treated as unexplained", he said.

The death of a 69-year-old Russian man in London is being investigated by counter-terrorism police, Scotland Yard has said.

Police officers man a cordon near where Sergei Skripal was poisoned along with his daughter.

Andrei Borovkov told Russian media outlets on Tuesday that his client, Nikolai Glushkov, was found dead inside his south London home and that he was unaware of the time and circumstances.

Reports in British and Russian media said Glushkov, who was in his late 60s, was found dead at his home in southwest London.

President Trump fires Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State
The Washington Post reports that Trump asked Tillerson to step aside on Friday, March 9 moments after he had arrived in Kenya. He "did not speak to the president this morning and is unaware of the reason" for his firing, the spokesman added.

"Whilst we believe we know the identity of the deceased, formal identification is yet to take place", police said in a statement. Police said he committed suicide but Glushkov told The Guardian in 2013 that he suspected foul play.

In the 1990s, Glushkov worked for the state airline, Aeroflot, along with Berezovsky's LogoVaz vehicle company.

The Guardian reported that Glushkov was close friends with Boris Berezovsky who fled to the United Kingdom in 1999 after falling out with the Russian president.

The victim is believed to be Nikolai Glushkov, who claimed political asylum in the United Kingdom after being convicted of fraud, the BBC reports. In 2004, he was sentenced to three years and three months behind bars but was released in the courtroom having served the term in custody.

In 2017, during a trial in absentia in Russia, Glushkov was sentenced to eight years in prison for stealing $123m from Aeroflot.

It said Russian Federation had sought his extradition in 2015 "for committing a number of severe financial offences on the territory of Russian Federation", but the British government refused.
