Michael Carrick

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has confirmed he will retire from playing football at the end of the season. "You can't live like you've had a career before you've had the career - you've got to earn it".

Mourinho has said he would be keen to add Carrick to his first-team coaching staff and the former England global admits there is a good chance he could be on the bench from next season.

"For so long, it was kind of a given", said Carrick, the last remaining member of the victorious 2008 side.

The the 36-year old former England global, made the disclosure while fielding questions from journalists ahead of his teams Champions league second half clash against Sevilla. That's pretty much where I am at'.

Carrick signed a new contract last summer as well as receiving the captain's armband, but the 36-year-old has barely featured this season having undergone treatment earlier in the season to fix an irregular heart rhythm.

Bulldogs hosting Nebraska to open NIT
Lindsey said he is excited to play under these revised rules, but that shouldn't change the outcome of games. For Nebraska, ultimately, it appeared to be less about the quantity of wins and more about the quality.

United boss Jose Mourinho suggested at the beginning of the year that the 34-cap England global would likely bring the curtain down on his career at the end of the campaign and, speaking to reporters ahead of Tuesday's meeting with Sevilla, Carrick confirmed the news. We're still talking about it, to be honest, so there's nothing to totally confirm as yet.

"I had a problem in the Burton game it started in the second half, had a few tests and the same problem came back on the Sunday of that week. I am trying to help a lot more because I understand where I am at", he concluded.

It has been an illustrious career in the middle of the Old Trafford turf for Carrick since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006, playing a whopping 436 matches in that time which has included 19 major trophies which has included five Premier League titles and two European trophies. "I wanted to finish on my own terms".

"I need to keep myself fit and ready".
