Aadhaar linking deadline for all services extended indefinitely

Aadhaar deadline extended

The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday has extended mandatory Aadhaar linking with bank accounts and mobile phones and passports indefinitely till the judgement is pronounced.

On December 15, 2017, the Bench extended the Aadhaar linking deadline from December 31, 2017 to March 31, 2018.

Aadhaar is a unique identification provided in form of a twelve-digit number which is based on the biometric and demographic data of a person.

The top court, however, said Aadhaar for direct benefit transfers will continue to be mandatory.

The deadline to link Aadhaar with PAN was extended to March 31 in November past year.

A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra and comprising justices AK Sikri, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan is hearing a case relating to the constitutional validity of the government's Aadhaar scheme. However, this will not apply to services and subsidies under section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

However, it is still mandatory to link your welfare schemes with Aadhaar to get benefits under Article 7 before the deadline.

With the 17 goals, Canada has now scored 991 since Hockey Canada took over the sledge hockey program in 2004. Taras finished ahead of US athletes Daniel Cnossen and Andrew Soule who took silver and bronze respectively.

India launched Aadhaar in 2009 to restructure welfare payments, said UIDAI. This decision was challenged by certain petitioners, who insist that the Aadhaar Act is illegal, and is a violation of a citizen's now fundamental Right To Privacy.

Data security concerns surrounding the government's Aadhaar project have generated a lot of heated public debate in the past few years.

For many of us March 31 was looming large over our heads - what with us having to link many of our essential services with our Aadhaar.

"The government can not insist for mandatory Aadhaar even for issuance of Tatkal passport".

Apart from extending the deadline for linking Aadhaar with mobile number, the Supreme Court has also extended the deadline to link Aadhaar with bank accounts.

Today's order makes it clear that the 31 March deadline has been stayed until the Supreme Court passes its verdict in the case. We can not tell them, like on March 27, whether the deadline is extended or not...
