Turkish helicopter shot down by Kurdish militia in Syria's Afrin

The Turkish government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have reacted strongly to people who oppose the operation, and prosecutor's offices have initiated investigations into people who share social media messages critical of the operation.

Local officials in Afrin are complaining that the Turkish strikes are creating a growing humanitarian crisis, noting that at least 160 civilians have been killed and tens of thousands of civilians displaced from their homes in the attacks. However, in a posting on Twitter, Mustefa Bali, spokesman for the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces dominated by the YPG, said a helicopter had been hit in the Rajo area of northwest Afrin. At the same time, it will seek to reassure the Syrian Kurds that it will work with Turkey to prevent any Turkish incursions or military operations in pockets under PYD control, boosting United States power in this area and pro-US and anti-Iran and anti-Al-Assad and anti-IS forces.

Separately, the Turkish military said on Friday the construction of a fifth military post near Syria's northwestern region of Idlib had begun. "There is some kind of consensus between the Syrian regime, Iran and Turkey".

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the Turkish Army's one of the two ATAK helicopters on a mission in Afrin had crashed, Anadolu news agency reported.

Beirut, Feb 11 Syrian regime air strikes killed six civilians including two children overnight in Eastern Ghouta after a day of respite from deadly bombardment of the rebel enclave, a monitor said today.

The Islamic State group is being routed from its strongholds, and the rebels who seek to topple President Bashar al-Assad are down to a few remaining pockets of land. It could threaten to further destabilize Syria, taking the seven-year war to uncharted waters, and potentially reviving ISIS in the process. So we dont know what will happen, what they will do If the Turks advance. US forces have pivoted their focus from the fight against ISIS to fighting Russian-backed Syrian forces. But many have moved to other parts of Syria, according to U.S. officials and analysts. For the Assad regime, those ISIS remnants are a mixed blessing.

The YPG said the Turkish army also targeted a slaughterhouse on Afrin's outskirts, heavily damaging the building and killing hundreds of sheep.
