Android Messages may soon let you send texts from the web

In a move that might bring a glint in the eyes of Android enthusiasts, Google is reportedly planning to bring the ability to send text messages from your computers.

Google has been working on their Android Messages features for nearly one and a half year.

Google's Android Messages app could soon get a dramatic makeover with some interesting new features, judging by an APK teardown by XDA Developers and Android Police.

Finally, there's code that indicates Google is working on allowing Android Messages users to make payments, most likely to businesses, for services.

Back in August, a reliable source of ours told us that Android Messages would gain a web portal, just like Allo's, that you would access via QR code. The feature, codenamed "Ditto", has been spotted by Android Police in the code for the latest version of Android Messages.

Apple's iMessage platform allows iOS and macOS users to send and receive messages to one another, instead of using standard SMS and MMS services. You open a link on your computer, which shows a QR code. The codes also mention the names of quite a few browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox. It appears as if Google may just start building out RCS features into Android Messages without carrier support, since carriers aren't exactly rushing to join their party. "As a minor implementation note, there will be a new notification channel and a "Connected to desktop" notification when the pairings are made", the report reads.
