Hafiz Saeed should be prosecuted, says US

Pakistan can’t act aginst Hafiz Saeed sans proof US told again

A USA state department spokeswoman today reiterated and underlined Washington's view on Saeed, saying she's aware that Pakistan's prime minister said two days ago that Saeed can't be prosecuted+ because there is no case against him.

The United States on Friday urged Pakistan to prosecute Hafiz Mohammad Saeed "to the fullest extent of the law", endorsing the Indian view on the Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief. You can close your eyes, pretend nothing happened but they (Pakistan) have to realise what's in front of them and take action against such people, who are freely operating from their soil.

Earlier while condemning Pakistani Prime Minister's statement saying that there is no case against Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan, a former United States diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad had said, "very alarming statement by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi because Hafiz Saeed is a terrorist".

The spokesperson said the U.S. administration believes Saeed was the mastermind behind the terror attacks in Mumbai that killed many people, including Americans. "We believe that this individual should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law".

The US also desires the Lashkar-e-Taiba be labelled a terrorist organisation internationally. He was the mastermind, we believe, of the 2008 Mumbai attack which killed many people, including Americans as well.

He was also individually designated by the United Nations under UNSC R1267 in December 2008 following the November 2008 Mumbai attack in which 166 Indians and foreigners were killed.

Hafiz Saeed is showered with flower petals as he walks to a Pakistani court in Lahore. "That's something that we've been very clear about all along".

Two months later, the Donald Trump administration went a step further by revoking its $1.1 billion in security aid to Pakistan, although Washington later said the move wasn't related to Saeed's release.

Early this month, the U.S. suspended about $ 2 billion worth of security assistance to Pakistan accusing it of not doing enough in the fight against terrorism.

The State Department yesterday said it has not received any formal information in this regard from Pakistan.

"Oh! There is plenty of evidence".

Saeed has been grabbing headlines often since his release from house arrest in November.
