Donald Trump ASKED for mental health check amid fears over 'erratic behaviour'

U.S. President Donald Trump passed a test for signs of dementia and is in overall excellent health, but needs to shed weight by cutting calories, fats and carbohydrates and starting a daily exercise routine, the White House physician said on Tuesday.

Scores of psychiatric officials called on Dr Ronny Jackson to carry out mental health checks during the President's annual health screening after months of erratic outbursts and freakish physical gaffes - including slurred speech last month.

However, Jackson said he suggested that Trump lose 10 to 15 pounds over the next year by improving his diet and exercising more.

Jackson said Trump has no mental or cognitive issues and is in excellent health.

White House physician Admiral Ronny Jacksone also described a cognitive exam that he gave the president.

"He's very sharp. He's very articulate when he speaks to me", Jackson said.

Dr Jackson said he had every confidence that the president "has a very strong and a very probable possibility of making it completely through his presidency with no medical issues".

Even without red flags from test results, Mishori said it was clear that Trump faces some risks.

The Navy doctor exhausted reporters' questions during an unusually lengthy hour-long session, at Trump's request, and said he did not withhold any information in the interests of privacy.

Trump's blood pressure was 122 over 74, and his total cholesterol was 223, which is higher than recommended.

But Jackson said Trump personally requested the test as he continues to face questions about his mental acuity for office.

Instead it has spawned a movement of people who believe Mr Trump may have fudged his height so he could avoid being assessed as obese. Jackson said that Trump's cholesterol level is now elevated, so he is increasing Trump's medication. He also appears in photos to be much heavier than 239lbs, when you look at him in photos beside other people around the same weight.

Mr Trump takes Crestor for his cholesterol, a low-dose aspirin for heart attack prevention, Propecia to treat male-pattern baldness and antibiotics for rosacea. "I find no reason whatsoever to think that the president has any issues whatever with his thought process".

Asked how Trump managed to be in such good health with that lifestyle, Jackson said, "He has incredibly good genes".
