YouTube Making It Hellishly Harder to Get Some $$ from Advertising

YouTube's Logan Paul response

"Since then, they've improved their policies tremendously, which is reflected in the newest shift towards content review", said Dale Lovell, co-founder and CDO at Adyoulike.

For the first time, the company will be pre-emptively reviewing large swaths of its content to ensure it meets "ad-friendly guidelines", raising the bar for video creators who wish to run adverts on their content, while hoping to allay advertiser unease about the video-sharing website following scandals such as Logan Paul's video of a dead body.

"While we took several steps past year to protect advertisers from inappropriate content, we know we need to do more to ensure that their ads run alongside content that reflects their values", Muret wrote.

On top of all that, YouTube's faced a string of controversial happenings lately with the bigger stars making some pretty significant missteps in their video content. These changes replace the previous policy that allowed any user with 10,000 views to apply for the YouTube Partner Program. If the current threshold doesn't weed out the "bad actors", will a new threshold do something different? Later, it was confirmed that the deceased person in question committed suicide, which in turn made even more call for YouTube to cut ties with Paul entirely. Meanwhile, sensitive content such as violence and other questionable entries usually make it past the system.

"There's no denying 2017 was a hard year, with several issues affecting our community and our advertising partners", says Paul Muret, a Google executive.

Facebook to Continue Probe in Alleged Russian Meddling in Brexit - UK Lawmaker
Mr Collins welcomed Facebook's promise to expand their investigation and said he would "look forward to reviewing their findings". Facebook said its initial investigation found "a minimal amount" of UK-related activity.

According to the post, majority of the channels being affected weren't making much money, where Mohan and Kyncl write... Like Paul, Kjellberg was removed from Google Preferred and lost the second season of his YouTube series, Scare PewDiePie. This will go into effect on February 20th, 2018. The rest of the world will get the same monitoring process after March.

The move will see Google remove advertising from a "significant" number of YouTube channels, 99% of which generated less than $100 from ads in the past year.

Advertisers don't want their ads — YouTube's lifeblood — running next to troubling videos. These manual reviews are expected to be completed by mid-February in the USA, and by the end of March in all other markets where Google Preferred is offered.

The video-sharing platform explained that the new goals are created to prevent low-quality content like Paul's from making it to the platform as creators will lose motivation as there is no ad cash involved. Recently, YouTube's been trending this direction with an increased focus on major stars and other non-YouTube celebrities and brands.

This prompted the YouTuber to take down the video and issue a public apology for his actions.
