Trump defends immigration policies amid outcry

A divided Republican caucus scrambled Wednesday to unify ahead of yet another looming government shutdown that could cost the USA billions of dollars each day it goes on without resolution.

"There shouldn't be a shutdown, but there could be", said Rep. Charlie Dent, a moderate Republican from Pennsylvania.

Mr Trump lashed out last week at the U.S. judicial system as "broken and unfair" after a judge blocked his decision to scrap the programme that has protected the so-called Dreamers from deportation since 2012, known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (Daca).

Instead of using that agreement as a turning point in the as-yet-intractable immigration debate, President Donald Trump opted to kick over the table.

"These are American citizens in every single way but a piece of paper", Sen.

"That is why there is so much advocacy for tuition equity policies", he said. Trump said that hopes for a deal are "probably dead".

Six senators - three Republicans and three Democrats - have introduced a bill that they say covers the four areas President Trump had insisted be addressed: action on "DREAMers", more border security, limits to the chain of family migration, and ending the Diversity Visa Lottery - which awards immigration passes based on luck of the draw.

The government hopes the cash will help provide 320,000 people with emergency food and provide protection for 255,000 refugees. Macron, who is on his first official trip across the Channel, will meet May at an army base near the British capital.

President Barack Obama issued the order in question, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, in June 2012 to offer renewable two-year work permits and protection from deportation to immigrants brought illegally to the United States before their 16th birthdays.

But Cornyn also said the White House is giving broad latitude for lawmakers to come up with a deal. Trump denied making the comment in a Twitter posting on Friday, although the White House didn't dispute the quotations after they were widely reported on Thursday. Sen. Trump allegedly said he'd rather have more immigrants from Norway, a predominately white country, and fewer from "shithole countries" in Africa and said the USA didn't need anymore people from Haiti.

President Trump has expressed frustration with the court's ruling, calling the court system "broken and unfair". Democrats should stop opposing Trump's "border wall" plan.

There are more modern methods of enforcing border security, while internal security should focus on illegal immigrants who commit crimes.

"The Dreamers are the ultimate political pawn", Gutierrez, who is also a former CEO of Kellogg and now co-chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, said Wednesday on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street". Despite the Republican majority in Congress, nine votes are needed from Senate Democrats in order to pass a solution.

However, the Republican proposal could also face opposition among their own hardline rank-and-file in the House. "That I can tell you". Byrne said he wasn't sure.

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., chairman of the hardline House Freedom Caucus, echoed concerns about funding the military in short, unpredictable bursts. And some of these senators facing reelection are running in states that Trump won in the 2016 election and fear being voted out of office by his supporters if they do not cooperate with Republicans.
