Infiniti To Become A "Highly Electrified Brand"

Infiniti QX50 uses new VC Turbo engine

Infiniti will offer a mix of pure electric vehicles (EV) and e-POWER vehicles - demonstrating the full range of low emission vehicle technology available to the auto maker, as the premium brand of Nissan Motor Company.

FROM 2021, all new Infiniti models will be offered with electrified power trains, with the Japanese luxury auto maker confirming it will launch its first pure electric vehicle in the same year.

It's a change that Infiniti hopes will propel it into the premium badge big-time.

With the move, by 2025, Infiniti expects over half of its global sales to comprise electric vehicles. Its hybrids will be marketed under an "e-Power" moniker.

Infiniti's e-power technology features a small petrol engine, similar to the range extender on a BMW i3, which is used to charge the battery, eliminating the need for an external charging source.

Walcott leaves Arsenal for Everton berth
Walcott is Sam Allardyce's second signing of the January transfer window after he paid £27m for striker Cenk Tosun from Besiktas. He only scored more than 10 league goals in one of his 11 full seasons at Arsenal , finishing with 14 in 2012-13.

While no explanation has been given for the switch to electrification, Infiniti designer Karim Habib told Autocar that the proportions of the Q Inspiration could be turned into a fully electric model.

Infiniti executives emphasized Monday that the VC Turbo engine is envisioned as a bridge technology to electrification, which they said was in the works.

At its debut in Detroit, Infiniti described the concept as giving a look at the brand's future design language and also innovative drivetrain technology.

According to commentators, the move spells another blow for the internal combustion engine, though most experts say it would be several decades to transition completely to electric vehicles.

After taking over Carlos Ghosn's post as Nissan's top brass in April a year ago, Saikawa said he wants more automakers to heavily invest in electrification to encourage more consumers to embrace the technology.
