Google's Project Fi now caps data bills at $60

Microsoft’s 15-inch Surface Book 2 opens for preorders in 17 new markets including the U.K. and Canada

Someone who used 10 GB in a month, for example, would pay $120 on Fi, versus the standard unlimited data plans of AT&T (t) at $90, Verizon (vz) at $85, Sprint (s) at $60, and T-Mobile (tmus) at $70, that all cost less for one line. Not only does that $80 figure line up nicely with the competition, but it also is effectively much lower since most unlimited plan users don't actually use over 6GB of data per month every single month.

If you are on a family plan or group plan with your wireless carrier, sometimes you have to ask everyone else on the plan to pay his or her share of the bill. Google is now getting in on the action with what is in essence an unlimited data option for its Project Fi MVNO service. And if you still only use small amounts of data, your bill stays exactly the same.

The theory behind Project Fi has always been simple: pay for what you use.

Project Fi has always been a great solution for those who use less than about 4GB of data per month, but now Google's giving the nod to people who want more. The good news is that you'll still have the option of paying for additional data beyond 15GB, at the regular price of $10 per gigabyte.

75% of National Parks Panel Quits in Protest
As of early Wednesday morning, the Interior Department has yet to comment on the resignations. Terms for the first two end in May, while Radelet's term does not expire until 2021.

Here's how it works: you'll still pay $20 for talk and text and $10/GB for up to 6 GB of data. Plans with two lines get protection at $120, three lines at $135, and four lines at $150.

Once the user goes above 15GB of data use, Project Fi will reduce the users speed to 256 kbps.

Google never positioned Fi as the cheapest carrier and indeed, you'll find better "unlimited" plans with other carriers. All customers are included in this, as it's not a separate plan. Starting at $20 per month for unlimited talk and text, plus $10 per gig those who rarely use data can save a lot of money. Project Fi says the update will start rolling out to individual and group plans today, and current users will see the changes on their next billing cycle.
