Plane dangles off cliff after skidding off runway in Turkey

A Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737-800 after skidding off the runway downhill towards the sea at the airport in Trabzon

An airplane on January 14 has skidded off the runway after landing in the Black Sea province of Trabzon, causing panic among passengers aboard, Hurriyet Daily News reported citing Anadolu Agency.

Images show the aircraft on its belly and at an acute angle just above the water.

Pegasus says all 168 occupants "disembarked safely" from the aircraft, with no injuries to anyone on board. The mud stopped the craft from plummeting into the Black Sea. Flights were suspended at Trabzon Airport for several hours after the incident before resuming again Sunday.

A passenger jet has skidded off a runway in northern Turkey. "We could have burned, exploded, flown into the sea", Gordu said.
