Trump Lawyer Arranged $130K Payment for Adult Star's Silence

One of the Trump Organization's top lawyers reportedly paid an adult film star $130,000 to stop her from publicly discussing an alleged sexual encounter with Donald Trump, who was running for president at the time of the reported payment.

According to the report, Cohen, who's been Trump's top lawyer at the Trump organization for almost a decade, arranged the deliver the cash to Stephanie Clifford - known in the adult industry as Stormy Daniels - in October 2016, after her lawyer negotiated the nondisclosure agreement with Cohen.

A White House official told the WSJ Friday: "These are old, recycled reports, which were published and strongly denied prior to the election".

An attorney for Mr Cohen did not respond to The Independent's request for comment, but Mr Cohen said in a statement to the Journal that "President Trump once again vehemently denies" having had a sexual encounter with Ms Clifford. The paper said it is not known whether Trump was aware of any agreement or payment.

"Rumours that I have received hush money from Donald Trump are completely false", the statement said. The Journal reported at the time that the National Enquirer, which supports Trump, paid a former Playboy model $150,000 for a story about an affair with the future President, but the tabloid did not publish it. According to NBC San Diego, Clifford allegedly hit her husband multiple times after getting upset over unpaid bills.

Cohen also sent a two-paragraph statement by email addressed "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN" and signed by "Stormy Daniels" denying that she had a "sexual and/or romantic affair" with Trump. Their friendship included Trump calling their Los Angeles home and inviting her to parties that featured people like his son Donald Trump Jr. and Kim Kardashian, as well as events, like the 2007 Miss USA pageant.

But Cohen vehemently denied the claim. The site reported on rumors that Trump met Clifford at a gold tournament in 2006.

"I did not sign [a nondisclosure agreement], nor have I received any money for coming forward", Drake said this week in an emailed statement. If I indeed did have a relationship with Donald Trump, trust me, you wouldn't be reading about it in the news, you would be reading about it in my book. "But the fact of the matter is, these stories are not true". In its reporting, the Smoking Gun found that Clifford herself tried to shop stories to publications about her relationship with Trump.

Clifford was also supposed to appear on Good Morning America just before the election, but backed out of the appearance without an explanation, reports The Hill.
