Murray withdraws from Australian Open

Murray pulls out of Australian Open with hip injury

That's what tennis fans believe at least.

Two-time Open champion and fellow former world No.1 Azarenka pulled out of the Auckland Classic for "personal reasons" as the Belarusian continues to battle for custody of her son with her former American partner.

The former world No 1's participation was thrown into jeopardy earlier this week when he pulled out of the season-opening Brisbane International.

He took some extra time to ponder whether he could delve deep enough to make it through an arduous two weeks of a grand slam event and this morning he decided he couldn't.

Joining 21-year-old British sprinting sisters Shannon and Chereice Hylton, and the aspiring Glaswegian tennis talent of teenager Aidan McHugh on his books is Katie Swan, an 18-year-old who is widely regarded as Britain's most talented young female tennis player.

In an emotional social media post earlier this week, Murray revealed that his ongoing hip problems meant that he may need surgery to save and prolong his career.

Brodie-Sangster also had a leading role in hit TV show Game of Thrones. But without knowing everything about his condition and the severity of the prognosis, no-one outwith Murray's close circle of family and friends, and the medical staff, can say anything with any degree of certainty.

Now go forward to the year 2045 and Roger Federer is still playing.

Williams said after her loss to French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko: "I don't know if I am totally ready to come back on the tour yet".

"I've obviously been going through a really hard period with my hip for a long time and have sought council from a number of hip specialists". He said that the rehabilitation after surgery would mean Murray would spend even more time being inactive in the sport and that a full hip replacement would prevent him from performing at the same quality. "I've obviously been going through a really hard period with my hip for a long time and have sought council from a number of hip specialists", Andy wrote, going on to explain that rehab and surgery are his two options. "I'll be flying home shortly to assess all the options".

But he added that surgery "is something I may have to consider". "My rehab is going well but I am just not ready 100% to come back yet in best of five set matches and the gruelling Grand Slam schedule".

"I think it's very worrying but keeping everything crossed". "I'll see when I get back on the match court".

He's now jetting back to the United Kingdom where he may face gruelling surgery in a desperate attempt to ensure he's got a future in the sport.

The classy post attracted messages of sympathy from several tennis commentators, including Nadal.

All five are still entered in the Australian Open, but only Raonic was scheduled to play a warm-up tournament, the Brisbane International.
