Korea qualifies for figure skating team event at PyeongChang Olympics

South Korean actor Lee Dong-wook poses at a ceremony to be named honorary ambassador for the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics next month in Seoul on Jan. 12 2018

The IOC has said it will host a four-party meeting to decide on the participation of North Korea in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games to be held in South Korea in February.

This undated file photo provided by South Korean figure skater Kim Kyu-eun shows figure skaters from South and North Korea together.

Chang also told reporters at Beijing's worldwide airport that "the IOC is likely to consider" South Korea's proposal to form a joint women's ice hockey team and the size of North Korea's delegation to be sent to Pyeongchang will be decided by its national Olympic committee.

The ministry said the hermit state is apparently keen to discuss logistics of the performers' trip to the South before planning its athletes and supporters' attendance at the Games.

"We made various proposals including the fielding of a joint women's ice hockey team and a joint march into the Olympic stadium", South Korea's vice-sports minister Roh Tae Kang said, according to Yonhap.

Pro-govt rallies in Iran as protesters lie low
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sought to downplay the significance of the protests in a cabinet session Sunday. The people have little food, big inflation and no human rights. "The U.S.is watching!" he continued.

Media reports said North and South Korean officials would continue their discussions on Olympic arrangements on Monday in Panmunjom.

"It appears that the North wants to discuss various practical matters related to an art troupe's visit as a priority", the ministry said in a statement, adding that the government would respond after reviewing the North's proposal.

Korea boycotted the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul, meaning Pyeongchang will be the first Olympics they have attended in the South.

However, the International Olympic Committee has said it will consider offering wildcards to North Korean athletes. South Korea are grouped with Sweden, Switzerland and Japan in the women's tournament. "Since there have been few exchanges between the two Koreas, there are many minor issues to be dealt with".
