J&K education system needs overhaul to check radicalisation: Army chief

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat blamed the "corrupted education system" of Jammu and Kashmir for spreading an anti-India propaganda in its schools. "The Chinese are still there in north Doklam area".

Asked about the "pressure" being exerted on Pakistan by U.S., he said: "It would be premature to say what will be the impact of the pressure".

Maintaining that Chinese troops are still present in Doklam, their numbers have thinned down considerably, Gen Rawat said: "China is a powerful country, but we are not a weak nation either".

"The focus has to shift to the northern borders (with China)". The development of infrastructure needs to be stepped up, and requirement of systems met.

Rawat said Indian soldiers crossed into foreign territory during the standoff but only because Chinese forces had "big equipment and they meant business".

California's budget comes with record spending … and a call for restraint
Between now and the end of June when the budget is approved, the governor and state legislators will need to measure the impact. The proposal contains $233 million for larger payments to doctors and dentists who treat Medi-Cal patients.

"If things had escalated, we were prepared to handle the situation".

"The other issue is that of madrassas and masjids... what is being informed to them or incorrectly informed to them is through these madrassas and masjids. some kind of control is to be exercised there and that is what we are looking at".

Acknowledging the suspension of military aid to Pakistan by the US, General Rawat averred it was premature to talk how much of an impact it would have on Pakistan, India and the extended neighborhood. "Dealing with ceasefire violations, LoC, terrorists, the Army has been told by the government to conduct operations as it deems fit", Gen Rawat asserted.

"Unless the pain is felt by the Pakistan Army, it would send terrorists, who are disposable commodities for them. We can not allow our neighbours to drift away to China", PTI quoted him as saying. "Troops are earmarked, should a situation arise our troops are ready to cater", said the Army chief. "If there is a drop in infiltration from Pakistani side, we are willing to call a ceasefire". "Already, Pakistan has suffered 3-4 times higher casualties due to the retaliatory action following the ceasefire violation", he said in his annual media briefing ahead of Army Day.
