Chris Brown Could Face Jail Time for Pet Monkey

Chris Brown could potentially face jail time after having to give up his daughter's pet monkey because he didn't have a permit to keep it.

Singer Chris Brown appears for a probation progress hearing at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Centre in Los Angeles February 3, 2014.

TMZ reports that the singer never got a permit for said monkey, and the animal has since been confiscated. Patrick Foy said the department received multiple calls about a photo on Brown's Instagram page that showed his daughter posing with a monkey.

California Fish and Wildlife said there were no record of a permit for the monkey for Brown or anyone associated with his property and got a search warrant for Brown's property.

Some people complained to authorities about Brown owning the pet, which prompted the investigation, according to TMZ.

Analysts said his remarks alleviated market concerns about a wind-down of the OPEC-led deal to reduce production. That's bad news for the United States coal industry and Donald Trump ambitions to restore coal's fortunes.

Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, has told TMZ: "As I leave my office in Downtown LA and walk past people sleeping on the street on my way to defend people charged by the City Attorney with selling medical marijuana... now spending taxpayer money on investigating monkey business, this completes the circle on his absurdity". The "Loyal" singer could face up to six months behind bars after he was slapped with a misdemeanour charge for keeping the primate - named Fiji - at his home in California without obtaining a Restricted Species Permit from California Fish and Wildlife.

A spokesperson for the L.A. City Attorney's Office told us that there was "no information at this time".

Fiji was sent to an undisclosed facility.

Email and phone message requests for comment from his representatives weren't immediately returned.
