Angelique Kerber beats Ashleigh Barty to win Sydney International

Tennis- Sydney International- Sydney Olympic Park Sydney Australia

Angelique Kerber made the ideal start to 2018, winning the Sydney International after beating Ashleigh Barty in the final on Saturday. The former world No. 1 saw a career year in 2016, winning two Grand Slams, including one at the Australian Open.

During the trophy presentation, Kerber said: "I am playing fantastic tennis again and feeling just great".

Kerber had a breakout season in 2016, beating Serena Williams in the final to claim her first major title at the Australian Open and going on to reach the Wimbledon final and win the US Open.

Kerber, who began last year as No.1 before finishing at No.22, continued her 2018 resurgence and remains unbeaten this year.

Barty then broke early in the decider and again in the seventh game to ease to victory and set up a final against either Camila Giorgi or Angelique Kerber.

Fired-up Brady on mission as Patriots face Titans test
He's 11-2 in 13 divisional-round games since 2002 and has completed 316 of 509 passes for 3,700 yards and 28 TDs in those games. It's a playoff game, so it's not like it's the preseason where I can go out there, 'Oh, it's Brady , ' and I'm chillin.

It was Kerber's second win over the 19th-ranked Barty in three meetings.

Fifth-seed Bautista Agut, who won the title in 2016, outlasted second-seed Del Potro, the 2009 champion, in a match of remarkable highs and lows.

Bidding to become the first Australian woman to win in Sydney since Alicia Molik in 2005 player, Barty beat Kerber the last time they met but ominously the German is yet to lose in 2018. I played some of my best tennis this week and it wasn't enough.

"I am playing awesome tennis again and I am just feeling great". She heads into play at Melbourne Park with plenty of momentum.
