YouTube Releases Official Apology for Logan Paul Video

YouTube

YouTube has cut some business ties with Logan Paul, the hugely popular vlogger who posted a video showing the body of an apparent suicide victim in Japan.

YouTube has had to deal with a number of brand-safety issues over the past year, and the Paul punishment is the clearest step yet that the company is not afraid to take action to combat the problem, even against its most high-profile channels. YouTube took similar action a year ago when PewDiePie made anti-semitic comments. However, YouTube via a series of tweets has assured to take necessary action against this awful act as they say "we'll have more to share soon on steps we're taking to ensure a video like this is never circulated again". The video has since been taken down, and Paul has issued numerous statements of apology. In response to the ever-increasing wave of criticism, Logan Paul argued that he only wanted to increase awareness of suicide and that it was never his intention to promote himself through the suffering of others.

YouTube announced that it removed Paul's channel from Google Preferred advertising program and will not highlight him in the new season of the web series "Foursome".

Paul has a reach of 15 million YouTube subscribers, more than 16 million Instagram followers and more than 4 million Twitter followers. Paul's ad deals are on pause, and he was removed from Google Preferred, a profitable pipeline that gives advertisers access to popular personalities.

The company said Paul's video violated its guidelines and it was "looking at further consequences".

The company expressed that it was upset about the video, stating, "Suicide is not a joke, nor should it ever be a driving force for views".

At one point during his clip, Logan pans his camera towards a large tree only to find the dangling corpse of a person who recently committed suicide. In February 2017, the Wall Street Journal discovered that YouTube's biggest star, PewDiePie, uploaded a video featuring anti-Semitic imagery and language. Paul has yet to upload another vlog since his Suicide Forest video breaking his streak of posting a vlog every day since September 12, 2016.

YouTube's decision revokes Paul's access to numerous revenue streams content creators utilize to monetize content-members of the Google Preferred program are able to utilize the most lucrative advertisers the platform offers.
