Trump slurs Haiti, African nations as 'shithole countries'

President Trump decries ‘people from countries’ coming to US report says

Trump said, according to people briefed on the meeting who spoke with The Washington Post.

According to The Post, Trump said during a private meeting with lawmakers Thursday in the Oval Office, "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?"

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday "There has not been a deal reached yet".

"Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people", Shad said.

State Sen. Kwame Raoul, D-Chicago, who born in Chicago to Haitian immigrants, said Trump's comments show his "ignorance of the contributions Haitians have made to this country, as well as other immigrant nations". Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va.

Lankford acknowledged that the meeting got "confusing", saying though Trump at the beginning defined "DACA" as a deal that included DACA plus border security and two other areas of reform, it was unclear during some parts of the meeting.

But so what if it was? He said Trump's apparent description of Haiti as a "s--hole" is "not an accurate description of Haiti".

On today's episode of Not The Onion, the President of the United States declared a number of countries "shitholes" during an immigration discussion in the Oval Office. The result? Haiti defaulted and US tax dollars were poured into a bottomless pit.

U.S. Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, called the president's behavior "unacceptable from the leader of our nation".

"I work every day to make this the most welcoming state for everyone - Haitians, Cubans, Venezuelans, and others from all around the world that call Florida home".

There is no poorer country in the Western Hemisphere than Haiti, though given time Communist Venezuela might well change that.

The remarks show that Trump, with nearly a year of presidential experience under his belt, is not much different than candidate Trump, who said in a speech announcing his candidacy, "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best". Why would he do that?

Salvadorans were first granted temporary residency protections in 1990 amid El Salvador's brutal civil war.

"You know what, it's a feature, not a bug", the CNN analyst added. "Those from African, Caribbean, Central and South American countries are seen as less than", one tweet read. Of course it does. Since his inauguration last January, Trump has struggled to find a compromise with Democrats and even some Republicans in the Senate and the House of Representatives.

How about Somalia? Who's up for more mass immigration from Somalia? "I'm sorry if it was for you". Machete attacks on street corners in Columbus and mall stabbings in suburban Minneapolis.

Immigrants from six other countries are now eligible for TPS. I represent Florida, and we are an wonderful melting pot where over 250 languages are spoken.

Nor should we dismiss this sentiment as a one off by Trump. The program expired in 1994, but seven years later, President George W. Bush allowed as many as 150,000 Salvadorans to stay in the U.S. legally following deadly earthquakes that ravaged most of El Salvador. They knew this about him but still stand w/him.

In practice, a more skills-based immigration system would be unlikely to attract many immigrants from Norway. Not mass willy-nilly immigration to turn swaths of our cities into breeding grounds for Al Shabaab or MS-13.

But this immigration policy talk is all kind of beside the point. And, "we believe these truths to be self evident" because, well, they are.
