New US ambassador to Netherlands grilled over 2015 comments

This image is for use with this specific article only.** President Donald Trump's new US Ambassador to the Netherlands Peter Hoekstra held his first press conference with Dutch media at The Hague on Wednesday

"There are politicians that are being burned", Mr. Hoekstra said.

In 2015, Hoekstra claimed that "stealth jihad" was taking place in Europe via refugees - who he referred to as "invaders" - and that the entire country was in a state of "chaos", according to The Intercept.

On Wednesday, Hoekstra dug himself into an even deeper hole at a Dutch press conference marking the beginning of his ambassadorship, when reporters asked again for him to clarify: "Are politicians being burned in the Netherlands?". "If you are truly an honest and wise man, would you please take back the remark about burned politicians - or name a politician that was burned in the Netherlands?" another journalist questioned. Are politicians being burned in the Netherlands in the past? Hoekstra refused to answer the question, but the brutal interrogation wasn't over.

Peter Hoekstra, the newly minted US ambassador to the Netherlands, held his first conference with the Dutch media at his new residence in the Hague on Wednesday.

Hoekstra has been in hot water in the Netherlands for the remarks since he was first confronted by a Dutch journalist, Wouter Zwart, in December.

Ricky Martin now married to Jwan Yosef
Ricky and Jwan have been together since 2016, and got engaged in November of that year. Asked if Martin's younger self would be proud of him now, he said: "Now he is proud".

The reporter showed him the exact clip in which Hoekstra had made the remarks about chaos and burning, and said, "You call that fake news?" Asked by journalists about the controversy, Hoekstra declined to comment on them directly, saying instead: 'This is about the views and the policies of the United States of America, as directed by this administration'.

You may remember Hoekstra from his viral humiliation in December, when he was caught on camera lying about racist and unfounded statements about the threat of radical Islam. Later, after being played a recording of his comment, he denied calling it fake news.

Nevertheless, Hoekstra has "made unsubstantiated claims about the nature of Muslim communities in Europe and pushed a hardline view of Islam" as recently as previous year, according to a CNN KFile review. "Please accept my apology".

Hoekstra served as a Congressman from 1993 to 2011. He said Hoekstra also was expected to visit various Dutch communities over the weekend, including Muslim communities.

In contrast to the Dutch reporters at the briefing, the White House Press Corps has been criticized for agreeing to off-camera briefings for several weeks last summer and failing to call out White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and follow up when she refuses to answer questions or responds with lies about the administration.
