Joe Arpaio will run for Arizona Senate 'to support Trump'

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio speaks in support of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a Trump campaign rally

The 85-year old is a staunch supporter of President Trump's America First agenda and promises to be stalwart in his support of the president.

Joe Arpaio, the former Arizona sheriff who engaged in racial profiling in search of undocumented immigrants, housed prisoners in an infamous tent city, and alleged that President Barack Obama's Hawaii birth certificate was a fake, is running for U.S. Senate.

Arpaio is running for the seat being vacated by Sen. The new candidate said he "relishes" the fight whether it be from the left or from supporters of McSally on the right, noting he has a "love-hate" relationship with both Flake and McCain who have both been critical of the president and opposed the pardon.

Arpaio made a name for himself as "America's Toughest Sheriff" through targeting immigrant communities in Arizona.

A guy who was Donald Trump before Donald Trump was Donald Trump says he's ready to represent the state of Arizona in Washington.

Arizona holds one of the latest primary contests, not voting until August, which could allow Arpaio to remain in the spotlight for months. A judge ruled he had willfully violated a 2011 injunction barring his officers from stopping and detaining Latino motorists exclusively on suspicion that they were in the country illegally. Mr. Trump pardoned him in August. The president said the prosecution was politically motivated. He also wants to support President Donald Trump, Arpaio says.

As for the future, Sheriff Joe may soon be Sen. "But Sheriff Joe should feel good".

The pardon was criticized in D.C. and Arizona. His last run for public office in 2016 fell short, resulting in him leaving the Maricopa County Sheriff's office.

I-65 south remains closed near Seymour due to fiery crash
Westbound traffic is being diverted off at Grant Street and eastbound traffic is being diverted off at Cline Avenue, police said. After the burned out damage was cleared away, IN DOT crews were able to assess the damage to the roads.

Arpaio blames the agency for his criminal conviction over intentionally defying a judge's order to stop traffic patrols that targeted immigrants, though the charge was recommended by the judge. Bobblehead dolls of Arpaio and Trump stand side by side atop a shelf.

Arpaio said he would accept a Trump endorsement, but he would not seek it.

In addition, inmates at the camps were assigned pink underwear and placed in chain gangs.

Publicity bid or serious candidate?

The former sheriff was also asked if this run is more about his ego - that he's missed being in the spotlight.

"Write about it fast (because) it won't last long", he said. Jeff Flake, who's set to retire at the end of this year. Democrats are incumbents in 24 of those, not including Angus King (Maine) and Bernie Sanders (Vermont), who caucus with the Democrats. The controversial sheriff lost a re-election bid in 2016, the same year that Trump won election to the presidency, including winning the state of Arizona.

McSally hasn't officially declared yet and at one point, Ward was the only one running.

Democrats were already using Arpaio's candidacy to fundraise. Arpaio, who turns 86 this year, is older than any current USA senator and would be the oldest freshman senator ever elected.
