ISRO said it was "back in the game" with the launch, the first Polar Satellite LaunchVehicle (PSLV) mission after the unsuccessful launch of the navigation satellite IRNSS-1H in August last. The satellites have been placed into a 505 km polar sun-synchronous orbit. The rocket's shield had failed to separate, due to which the satellite could not launch.
The doomed August 31 mission placed India's IRNSS 1H navigation satellite into orbit, but the PSLV's payload fairing - the shroud created to protect the spacecraft during the first few minutes of flight - failed to jettison soon after liftoff.
# "The micro satellite will be India's 100th satellite in space", ISRO Satellite Centre Director M. Annadurai said.
"During the last PSLV launch we had problems, today what has happened proves that the problem was properly addressed and rectified".
K Sivan, a renowned scientist, is set to take over as the new chairman, replacing AS Kiran Kumar. "Out of the 31 Satellites, 28 belonging to 6 other countries are carried by today's launch", the Prime Minister said.

The surveillance satellite from the "Cartosat 2" series will keep watch on India's hostile neighbours.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh took to twitter and congratulated the ISRO team for the successful launch, which was PSLV's 42nd flight since its inception.
The Cartosat-2 remote-sensing satellite, the main payload onboard the PSLV C-40, will boost data services for users that will be used in urban and rural applications, coastal land use and regulation, monitoring of road networks, water distribution, land use mapping. The countdown started+ after the Mission Readiness Review (MRR) committee and Launch Authorisation Board (LAB) gave the clearance on Wednesday.
