Former VPs at swearing-in of 2 Senate Democrats

3 vice presidents at the Senate on Wednesday

That's the basic lesson we've learned from Richard Jaffe, the Alabama defense attorney who worked for Republican Roy Moore's family - but voted and helped fundraise for Democrat Doug Jones in last month's special election, according to the Washington Examiner.

Former Vice President Joe Biden accompanied Jones, who won a December special election to fill the seat vacated almost a year ago by current Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Doug Jones, D-Ala., second from left, with his wife Louise Jones, second from right, Wednesday, on Capitol Hill in Washington. Manchin is up for re-election in a state President Donald Trump won by more than 40 points in 2016, but Democrats believe the former governor's personal brand in the Mountain State will make him hard to beat.

The senator-elect released a statement shortly after the certification saying he was "looking forward to going to work for the people of Alabama in the new year".

Ninety-six percent of Black voters backed Jones, while Moore saw decreased turnout in more conservative voting blocs and areas.

Even before it was clear what committees Jones would serve on, the Alabama Democrat was already playing an outsize role.

Holes in US-Mexico Border Create 'Big Problems with Human, Drug Smuggling'
President Trump had a message Saturday for immigration reformers in Congress who don't want to back his border wall: Dream on. Yet several Democrats are still pushing for a so-called clean bill. "We're $700 billion in the hole", Paul said on CNN.

Jaffe also said that he was there by Jones' side when the senator-elect delivered his acceptance speech and plans to be at the Senate when Jones is sworn into the chamber tomorrow.

- Bannon thinks Congressional Democrats will "crack" Don Jr. "That is a nonstarter", Jones said. Smith's predecessor, Franken, resigned under pressure from fellow Democrats after allegations emerged that he had touched women inappropriately.

Jones made it clear during the campaign that he was opposed to the GOP's efforts to repeal President Barack Obama's signature health care overhaul, the Affordable Care Act. There's still much room for improvement, however, as a 2016 poll from "Roll Call" newspaper showed that only 5 percent of the almost 3,600 Senate staffers on Capitol Hill are African-American. Jay Rockefeller (Democrat of West Virginia), will be legislative director.

When Jones was sworn in on Wednesday, he narrowed the Republican majority in the Senate to 51-49.

Kayla Moore, Roy Moore's wife, caught the political world off-guard the night before the December 12 special election to replace Jeff Sessions as senator when she referenced Jaffe in a campaign speech.
