Ford Urges Some Ranger Owners Not To Drive After Takata Deaths

Ford is urging 2,900 owners of 2006 Ranger pickup trucks to stop driving them until dealers can install replacement inflators for their Takata air bags.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Saturday posted a notice from Takata which stated that it would be recalling another 3.3 million inflators for vehicles from various automakers ranging from Toyota, Honda Motor Co, BMW AG, Daimler AG, General Motors Co, Tata Motors Jaguar Land Rover unit and Subaru Corp.

Ford is telling owners of about 2,900 2006 Ranger pickup trucks not to drive them after discovering that a man was killed in a wreck involving an exploding Takata air bag inflator.

In a written statement, Ford said it decided the risk to drivers was severe enough to order immediate repairs after it confirmed a second death linked to Takata airbags.

UCF Fans Put Up Billboard Challenging Alabama To Play Them
If UCF and Alabama played this year, the Tide would've been favorites, as they are against every team they play. UCF was the only FBS team to go undefeated this season, finishing 13-0 after beating Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

The recall involves approximately 2,902 vehicles located in North America, with 2,712 located in the United States and federalized territories and 190 in Canada.

The Japanese supplier's USA subsidiary filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last June as part of a court-approved agreement to sell its remaining assets to Key Safety Systems. Ford announced that it will send mobile fix teams to owners' homes, tow vehicles to a local dealership for fix, and provide loaner vehicles - all free of charge. Some 19 automakers worldwide are impacted. More than 180 people have been injured. None have come to the United States to face charges. Owners living outside of the USA who aren't covered by the recall will also be contacted and have the defective part replaced.

NHTSA will continue to ensure all consumers are kept informed of current and future recalls. The inflators can rupture and send deadly metal fragments into the vehicle.

In June 2016, NHTSA warned airbag inflators on more than 300,000 unrepaired recalled 2001-2003 model year Honda vehicles showed a substantial risk of rupturing, and urged owners to stop driving them until getting them fixed.
